My name is Nicole, and I can't wait to see you at my shop. I live in the beautiful community of Gleneagle, Co. and decided to open up my own little candle boutique for a few reasons. First, I love candles and home decor. I enjoy crafting and making things with my hands, so this was the perfect hobby to turn into a career. Second, I have been searching for a way to work closer to home so I could find more time to be with my son Owen. Owen was diagnosed with Lennox Gastaut when he was 3 years old after battling seizures since he was 9 months old. Lennox Gastaut is rare and makes up only 1% of all cases of epilepsy. Despite being on many medications and having a VNS device implanted, Owen still has around 10 seizures a day. Owen was also diagnosed with Cerebral Pasly and although he can walk, he fatigues quickly and often has drop seizures which makes him dependent on his wheelchair. Owen is 17 now and is a senior at DCC. This journey into owning and operating a small local business has been amazing so far and that leads me to my third reason why I opened my shop. I wanted to bring a fun retail shop to our community. We all have to drive out of our ways to grab a gift, shop for something special, or connect with others. I'm hoping my little shop will help you find a place to shop close to home and bring some life to the Gleneagle Square center where my store is located.
Like so many, 2020 brought so much uncertainty in life. After working retail over 20 years, covid gave me some time to open up to new hobbies, like candle making. I've had an Etsy shop for a few years now and sold art prints, stickers, and handmade jewelry and keychains. Candle making was just another hobby to explore and I fell in love with it. The entire process from sourcing wax, jars and fragrance oil, to melting and pouring the wax, and watching a candle burn has been soothing and rewarding. Turning my hobby into a fulltime day job was a dream come true. I've always loved retail and talking to people about product and helping each customer find the perfect item for themselves or for a gift. I've worked for brands like Ann Taylor, Tommy Hilfiger and Maurices. Customer service is my life blood. Creating and opening my own shop helps merge all the things I love, making things with my hands and offering amazing customer service.
Gleneagle Candle Co. was named after the community we live in. We sit at the foot of the Air Force Academy and have the most amazing views in the Springs. Community is so important to us as we've been welcome and helped so much while on our journey to help our son with his fight with epilepsy. Owen is a patient at Childrens Hospital Colorado and sees a variety of specialists there. Because of the relationships we have with so many people and places here, we are happy to support our local Military, First Responders, Health Care Workers, and Teachers since we've received so much support from all of them! We offer a 10% daily discount for all those who serve and protect.
The Epilepsy Foundation of Colorado is our charity of choice for many reasons. Almost every year for Owen's birthday, we make a donation to the Epilepsy Foundation of Colorado. We wish to make a bigger impact every year now that we have a small business and can service the community on a bigger scale. This September, we sold a special candle and $15 from each candle was donated to the Epilepsy Foundation of Colorado. We raised $840 and made our donation on 9/28/22.
We will host this fundraiser every September and hope to double our funds raised each year going forward.
